In answer to the call of His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, we are pleased to offer the Harvesting the Fruit of Vatican II Workshop.
“It seemed to me that timing the launch of the Year of Faith to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council would provide a good opportunity to help people understand the texts bequeathed by the Council Fathers… They need to be read correctly, to be widely known and taken to heart as important and normative texts of the Magisterium, within the Church’s Tradition.”
– Pope Benedict XVI, Apostolic Letter, Porta Fidei, For the Indiction of the Year of Faith
The Harvesting the Fruit of Vatican II Workshop, conducted by Louie Verrecchio, author of the internationally acclaimed faith formation series by the same name, is an excellent Year of Faith tool for dioceses and parishes that wish to invite the faithful to a deeper understanding of the Second Vatican Council and the documents it produced.
The Workshop begins with an Introduction that draws insight from the Opening Address that was delivered to the Council Fathers by Pope John XXIII on October 11, 1962, answering such basic questions as: What were the circumstances leading up to the Council’s calling? Why was it convened? What did it hope to accomplish?
Workshop participants are provided with an overview of the conciliar documents and the proper way in which to explore and interpret them, giving specific examples of what it means to apply what Pope Benedict XVI has labeled the “hermeneutic of continuity.”
The purpose of the Introduction is to build the solid foundation that one needs to enter the documents of the Council, confidently guided by the light of sacred Tradition.
* From there, Workshop participants are led on an exploration of the four constitutions:
Dei Verbum – Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation
Lumen Gentium – Dogmatic Constitution on the Church
Gaudium et Spes – Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World
Sacrosanctum Concilium – Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy
At the end of each of the five individual presentations, Workshop participants are invited to break into small groups to discuss questions drawn from the faith formation series, helping all present to become more comfortable exploring the conciliar text.
By the conclusion of the Workshop, participants will leave with a new found desire to continue the important work of Harvesting the Fruit of Vatican II.
* NOTE: This Workshop is customizable according to the needs of individual groups and events, including a focus on fewer, or different, documents and related topics. Contact us via email to discuss your event: email@example.com
